Morris The North Carolina State University Libraries has taken a multi-track approach towards facilitating discovery of numeric and geospatial data resources. While integrating data resources directly into the catalog via metadata crosswalking, the library has also developed separate data-specific discovery tools, and a gateway for searching across the various collections is in development. This presentation will address the following challenges and issues: FGDC and DDI crosswalks to MARC; association of online analysis tools and Web-based map servers with pertinent data resources; integrating local administrative metadata with external data resources; association of local value-added derivatives with parent data sources; incorporating parent-child and sibling/sibling relationships into discovery tools; and facilitation of cross-collection searching across a heterogenous collection of metadata databases. Attention will be given to the specific problem of facilitating discovery of state/local government, academic and commercial derivatives of Census 2000 resources. Steve Morris |
