Developing a new Data Archive in a Time of Developing Standards

vleighto@Princeton.edu

Today, there are many customs, standards and standard applications, which the creator of a data archive could choose to adopt or not adopt. This presentation discusses issues regarding how one evaluates established standards and practices and the choices that have been made by the CPANDA team as they have worked to develop their archive. Topics include deciding whether or not to follow the DDI/XML, using the DDI editor MADDIE, choosing a thesaurus, choosing whether to use pre-existing online analysis software such as SDA and VDC, choosing among applications for XML processing, for example.
